This Understanding the Living Community Challenge (ULCC) course provides an indepth introduction to the Living Community Challenge 1.2 – working through the methodology, case studies and with robust discussion around Imperative requirements. This course will cover the registration and certification process in becoming a Living Community and provide supporting information for the LCC Vision and LCC Master Plan requirements.

Attendees are the green planning and design leaders working at the neighborhood, district, community or campus scale: design professionals, planners, developers, owners, campus sustainability directors, resilience practitioners, government officials and employees of public agencies.

This workshop will be heavy on both content and discussion, so come ready to engage this emerging program.

  1. Explore the key requirements of the seven Petal Performance categories and 20 Imperatives aligning each intent with the creation of a holistic vision for Community health and well-being. Learn how design can foster social and natural connections and enhance healthy neighborhood structure and resilience
  2. Apply LCC principles through various case studies of strategies in action to identify what regenerative design principles look like at the building and community scale
  3. Describe the Living Community Challenge resources and certification process including the LCC Vision Plan and LCC Master Plan and understand how to generate a Living Materials Plan for community development
  4. Explore the similarities and differences between the building scale Living Building Challenge (LBC) and the neighborhood scale Living Community Challenge (LCC)

This session is approved for the following continuing education credits:
