More detailed information (tour guide names, lunch details, etc.) will be sent to registered attendees in advance of the tour date.

COST: $75 per person

STARTING LOCATION: Meet at the Downtown Seattle Ferry Terminal to Bainbridge Island (801 Alaskan Way Seattle, WA 98104). Our group will gather near the popcorn (you’ll smell it), right next to the ticket booth on the top floor, and board the ferry together. The ferry leaves at 11:25am. Our recommendation is to arrive at least 20 minutes prior to departure — you will not be included on the tour if you miss the 11:25am sailing.* The ferry will reach Bainbridge Island at 12:00pm, and you will walk to lunch before boarding a chartered shuttle for the rest of the tour.

Attendees are responsible for their own transportation to the meeting spot for this tour. We recommend taking public transportation—click here to buy lightrail/bus tickets, view schedules or download the King County Transportation App for your phone.

*If attendees live on Bainbridge Island, they can meet at the Bainbridge Ferry Terminal by 12:00pm in order to join the group for lunch and the start of the tour loop.

TOUR: Attendees will circumnavigate Bainbridge Island, with stops at three buildings for tours and an additional pause for lunch downtown. Details below:

Heron Hall is the home of Jason F. McLennan and his family. As a Certified LBC project, Heron Hall embodies the philosophy of sustainable architecture through high performance systems and elegant design. Serving as a teaching tool as well as a private residence, the project is raising the bar for future homes. The structure uses salvaged materials alongside cutting-edge products–the vast majority of which are sourced from within a tight radius of the project site. A rainwater cistern provides all needed water and composting toilets process waste efficiently. The project uses strategies such as passive solar and natural ventilation to lower the operating energy required for this beautiful home. Hear the founder of the Living Building Challenge discuss his philosophy in action. Learn more here.

The Silver Rock Residence is a single family home currently under construction on Bainbridge Island, WA. It is seeking full Living Building Certification. The project owners partnered with McLennan Design and Batt + Lear Construction to design and create a single story home that blends with the woodland landscape. Project highlights include: use of state of the art building practices, use of site milled lumber and structurally insulated rammed earth (SIREWALL), an extensive green roof with PV solar array, and an impressive hallway that extends the length of the home while highlighting outside features. Learn more here.

The Walk is a 52-unit net zero energy townhome project on Bainbridge Island, just a 15-minute walk to the Bainbridge ferry terminal. It seeks Petal Certification under the LBC. Twenty-four of the townhomes and flats will be available for rent and 28 will be for sale. Five of the units will be deeded permanently affordable. The homes will be powered by solar and electric charging will be available for tenant cars. An electric car share car will be available to residents for daily use. Learn more here.

RETURN: After the tour, attendees will be dropped back at the ferry terminal and can choose to return to Seattle whenever they like. Downtown Bainbridge is walking distance from the terminal and ferries depart approximately every 45 minutes. We suggest catching the 5:35pm ferry so you don’t miss the Wednesday evening afterparty!

We also recommend taking public transportation upon return to Seattle—click here to buy lightrail/bus tickets, view schedules or download the King County Transportation App for your phone.

Can’t wait to catch the 11:25am ferry? Join us on the 9:35am ferry for the AM tour!
