Zero Energy Buildings have reached a tipping point. The economic limitations that restricted their success in the past have changed drastically and the technologies needed to achieve Zero Energy are now readily available. This session will begin by unpacking the definition of Zero Energy and how this concept is recognized within the International Living Future Institute’s programs: Living Building Challenge Energy Petal certification, Zero Energy Building Certification, and Zero Carbon Building Certification.

The workshop will then showcase the latest Zero Energy and Net Positive Energy Building projects, using these case studies to highlight the technologies, tools and design processes to design and develop successful Zero Energy buildings. The workshop will conclude with a look at the emerging trends in Zero Energy, including policies and programs that are accelerating the adoption of Zero and Net Positive Energy Buildings and Communities at scale.

This session is approved for the following continuing education credits:
  • 4 LFA credits
  • 4 AIA LU|HSW credits

**Please note that an optional tour is offered in the morning for Zero Energy and Net Positive projects located in the Seattle area. If interested, please register for this event separately.
